Any guesses where the above image was taken. Its an easy one if you attended school there. But if you haven’t you might be surprised to know that it is the Grand Old Everett High School. We have to admit that this is nothing less than an outstanding piece of Everett architecture.
You would not believe how many people look at the image of the old Everett High School and guessed it’s some country estate in England, one of the parliamentary buildings in Victoria, or a plantation mansion somewhere in the deep South. We might forget that the architecture of Everett is so impressive because at one time there were massively big dollars emanating from this neck of the woods. The Pacific Northwest was the largest and best timber resource in the entire world and where there is lumber there is moneyed interests. Even Rockefeller was here trying to extract the silver wealth up at Monte Cristo. The industrial barons of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s came to claim their (perhaps undeserved) share of the wealth, and in their wake their money left quite a legacy of old buildings taht still can tell us their elusive story.
As you’ve already noticed, part of the popular appeal of EverettSource is the spectacular photography that we’ve placed throughout our news site. Exciting imagery simply turns the drab and the dull into the exiting and the wow! There’s another big reason for good imagery and that is that people simply love to connect visuals with the text they read. We on the editorial staff of EverettSource love to play this little game where we show people photos of area spots and see if they can guess where they are.
